Visitors can expect to find an excellent variety of arts and crafts stalls offering quality UAE Made products and the freshest gourmet foods

Dubai residents are set to be thoroughly spoiled this summer as ARTE – Artisans of the Emirates – announces their new summer & Ramadan market schedule packed with plenty of events across Dubai. Pick up distinctive pieces of jewellery, fashion, interior products, ceramics, accessories and traditional crafts, by almost 100 artisans at the forefront of their disciplines. Prepare to be tempted! Whether selecting a unique gift for friends and family or browsing for personal pleasure, this exceptional shopping treat will be topped off by meeting the maker and discovering the technique in which they work their magic. Wow your friends by commissioning your own piece or discover a bespoke design service that will make you the envy of the street.

This summer’s ARTE markets will be held on:

ARTE seeks to nurture a local handmade economy and environment by organizing and promoting craft markets, offering opportunities for social crafting and creative expression, and educating the public about the personal and commercial value of handcrafting.

Today, ARTE boasts a network of over 2000 artisans, from over 30 different countries, who have benefitted from the safety and crucial opportunity that ARTE offers them to launch their own businesses during the challenging economic environment.

Here is your chance to encourage and support the city's independent creative community. Don’t expect to find mass produced or imported goods here. What you will find are talented artists handpicked for their artistry skills and unique vision offering items you never knew existed and that you may never see again.

About ARTE

Artisans of the Emirates (ARTE) was founded in 2005 by Miriam Walsh, a felt maker, and Paul Townsend, a silversmith; both experienced artisans regularly featuring at the fairs in Dubai and long-term residents of Dubai.

Many of the craft fairs in Dubai at that time included a high percentage of imported goods of varying quality and often produced in bulk. Mixed with a sense of dissatisfaction of how other events were run, Paul & Miriam decided to set up their own Artisans of the Emirates community to showcase the quality hand crafted work produced by talented individuals living in the UAE.

Today, ARTE holds two monthly markets on the first Friday of the month in Festival Centre and second Friday in Times Square Center. Now in its sixth year ARTE has become firmly established as a friendly, accessible and high quality event, attracting over 2,000 visitors each month who delight at the quality and extensive range of work.

It now boasts a network of over 2000 artisans, from over 30 different countries, offering the public the opportunity to buy original and exceptional design and craft from local artisans.

At any given market, ARTE showcases over 100 contemporary and highly original makers and designers, with items as diverse as fine and casual jewellery, the best in visual arts from photography to watercolours to oils, clothing by local designers, gourmet foods, toys, sculpture, fine and functional pottery, a wide selection of woodworking, stained glass, fashion accessories and lots more.

These souks offer the ideal venue for gift buyers and souvenir hunters, or those just looking for locally made quality art and crafts as a lasting memory of the Arabian region. Beautiful handcrafted objects to suit everyone's taste and budget.

Hello fellow Artisans
Let's take a moment to examine where mass production and big business have gotten us. Decades of an unyielding focus on economic growth and a corporate mentality have left us disconnected with nature, our communities, and the people and processes behind the objects in our lives. Artisans worldwide are set to change this, and so are we at ARTE in the United Arab Emirates. Sign up for the ARTE markets in May in DFC and TSC and join us in our green approach.

We have had a huge response to our eco drive in April and we were contacted by quite a few of the press. Things are never certain in the world of PR but we have been told that ARTE will feature online in Gulf News with a video, and in Aquarius magazine on their calendar. Plus we have our usuals. In April we were also picked up by the Khaleej Times. I would like you to join me in thanking Rohini, and Feroz & Tamer for their dedicated work in helping ARTE to continue to remain in the Dubai press.

ARTE COFFEE MORNING
Monday 2nd May 2011 in Biella in Times Square at 10 am.
We thought it was time, at Arte HQ that we had a social event that is purely organised with you the vendors in mind. The actual Arte retailing events pass so quickly and we hardly get two minutes to talk to each other. At the ARTE coffee morning we can meet and discuss our businesses, ways to market and develop our businesses, promote our businesses via social networking, and also networking ourselves as individuals.
An invitation will be sent via Facebook and our e mail database closer to the time.

PLASTIC GRANULARS – Stuffing Pellets
We have been given bags of plastic granules, so if you can use any for stuffing of whatever, please come to the registration table so we can give you some. There are different colours and also apparently they are lightly fragranced. Obviously this freebee is for our attending vendors only.

Social & Cultural awareness
We have received a little nudge from one of our vendors to remind us of the country we live in: Can we all please make sure that anything which is placed on public display fully meets the rules and regulations of the UAE and is sympathetic to the local cultures and traditions, especially when it comes to religion and the nude male/female body.

Artisans of the Emirates (ARTE) adopt green practises for Arts & Craft Market on Friday, 8th April, 2011

Market attractions to include Pets Plus drawing competition for kids plus Emirates Arthritis Foundation to host fund raiser exhibition

This Friday, 8th April, 2011 at Times Square Center, ARTE, Artisans of the Emirates – will host its second Green Market, a unique shopping experience where the urban consumer can discover unconventional, hard-to-find arts and crafts, as well as supporting the environment by purchasing
one-of-a-kind, sustainable products from local artisans. The markets will feature locally handmade products including food, art, fashion and craft. Eating and buying local is an integral part in preserving our earth and world.

Moreover, many artisans are also using Earth Day to draw attention to their implementation of
year-round greener practices such as forgoing the use of plastic bags for alternatives such as fabric or paper bags.

Among others, Van Kleuren, a locally based GREEN home business, will introduce a fresh collection of eco-conscious products made from only biodegradable materials such as cotton fabric scraps and barley to create microwavable hot/cold compresses. Their collection also includes note books made from old cardboard boxes and used paper bags. The eco vendors go the extra mile with their stall display which is made entirely of driftwood and stones from the beach and old wooden fruit and vegetable carts.

Also present this Friday, will be Pets Plus, who are conducting a drawing contest, in conjunction with Times Square Center. Visitors are encouraged to bring their children, who will be able to participate in a drawing competition for a chance for their artworks to displayed in Times Square Center for public viewing. Children may choose from a variety of themes such as colouring a sea water scenery or drawing their favourite pets. The aim is to raise more awareness about animal welfare in the community from a grass root level.

Emirates Arthritis Foundation will be attending by hosting a special fund raising sale for a special selection of handmade items donated by volunteers and supporters of the organisation.

Emirates Arthritis Foundation Mission, works across the seven Emirates and many cultures with one objective which is to educate the growing population of the UAE about the realities of Arthritis. Please check out their website www.arthritis.ae

Moreover, Feline Friends a permanent fixture now at Times Square Center will continue with their fundraising secondhand book sale. They offer an environmentally friendly (and budget friendly) option to stocking your library with wonderful books. All books at the sale are donations from the community, and are in fair or good condition. Both fiction of all genres and nonfiction will be available.

Art House Dubai Gallery
Arte are working with Art House Gallery to set up a "drop off" box. The box will be used as an easy form/money drop off location (instead of bothering the Art House girls). It will also be stacked with envelopes and blank forms, (should your forget yours). This may take a few weeks to get set up, so in the meantime, please continue to be polite and well mannered when dealing with ART House gallery, and make sure that any questions you may have are answered either over the phone or via Email before you reach the Art House gallery.

COMPETITIONS
· Best February stall was by our teenage vendors Miss Alycia and Elyssa doing jewellery and cards. They have been awarded with a free table in April. Best stalls are measured by LIKE clicks on our facebook fan page.
· Best March stall photographs are uploaded, and wait for your clicks. Please invite your own friends to view the album and click what they like. In order for this to work, please also tag yourself, and comment where necessary. Recently we had a fabulous conversation between a few vendors about the emotions raised by a pencil drawing.

ARTISAN HIGHLIGHT
ARTE Teenangers in the spot light. We have the regular attendance of Chad and his arty schoolmates as well as Louise and her. Where the product is entirely made by the students, and when the initiative comes from the students (less than 18 yrs old) a half rate on the overall fee is offered.

ARTISAN TIPS & TRICKS
We often see vendors who only visit an ARTE market once, never to return, and we have great difficulty understanding this logic. We total understand that each of you have your own reasons for attending which vary from a day out (away from you home and kitchen), a day with like minded people, for some it is just a test to see how the market responds to your new product idea and for others (especially in these difficult times) it is all about the money.
But in our opinion it is very difficult to judge with just one visit. If you talk to any of our founder members, they all have good days and bad. If you have a good original well made product, a fine display that represents an identity style, as well as commitment and a chatty attitude with a smiley face, then you will succeed, but it may just take a little patience. It may require a small change in your pricing, or your product to turn what seems like a total loss into a huge profit making business. The key is to keep talking to your customers and other vendors, listen to what they have to say. As the old saying goes “if you keep doing the same thing, you are going to get the same results” and life is a journey and so is your evolvement at ARTE markets.

We find our way carefully through a maze of offers to hold ARTE markets all over the region. We cautiously assess the potentials on your behalf and we focus on what is best for you, the Artisans. Specifics on the Souk in the Meadows Village, Emirates Living, Emaar Community Winter Fair
If you are someone who imports art or craft from elsewhere and you would like to display the products on the market scene, we would like to invite you to sign on for the two day Winter Family Fair held in the Meadows Village in Dubai on 4th and 5th February 2011. The Emirates Living event is an Emaar Community Fun Fair and it is not an ARTE souk, but we are helping the organisers to arrange the vendors. Your product still needs to be unique and cannot be a duplicate of other vendors. I need extensive details including photographs of the work you will display.

What It is not limited to Handmade in the UAE, IMPORTED art, crafts and designs are permitted.
No products that clash with the main sponsors, such as Vietnamese handicrafts, open hot foods, cosmetics, fitness, biking, etc.
Food products must be pre-cooked and appropriately wrapped, only bakeware and jams & pickles. No meat products, No hot foods.

We have ARTE artisan badges/buttons, if you have not received one, come and collect one (DFC / TSC). If you already have one, wear it with pride and joy.
Our blog holds all the emails sent and will provide a great source of tips and tricks, a great source of inspiration if you are in an Artisans' selling dip, or if you are new to the ARTE group.
Facebook Group will be closed as of 1st February, to allow us to focus on the ARTE FB Fanpage. If you have been to recent events check out our pages, we have uploaded 100s of photos. If you see your stall or your product, tag it with your name. if you see something nice, write a friendly comment. Facebook is our best source for networking at the moment.
We have recently been in the Souk Scan of Friday Magazine, 24/7 website, GoodTaste magazine, Time Out magazines, TV and Radio....
We not only advertise in Connector, Xpress, 7 Days, Time Out, but also on FB and Google.
Number Facts: 1880 artisans on our database, 3750 clients on our customer database, Facebook fanpage advert saw nearly 90.000 impressions, the stats for the actual ARTE fanpage are hanging around 1000 active users, with about 700 people liking us, and 400 visits, plus a 100 posted messages. The ARTE website runs on well over 3000 hits per day, totalling to about 75000 plus hits per month.
We have reduced the rental rate of the wooden art easels in Times Square Center to Dhs 20 each. You are given 2 in an art space (or one rack) and you can rent up to a maximum of 3 additional easels (or one other rack)

ARTE - Artisans of The Emirates to host special Valentine’s Arts and Crafts Fair

Love will be in the air at ARTE February Markets
on Friday, 4th & 11th February, 2011

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, ARTE - Artisans of the Emirates - is hosting its first-ever ‘Handcrafted with Love’ Market, a special Valentine’s Arts & Craft Fair featuring high quality and creative hand-crafted gifts – ceramics, jewellery, fashion apparel & accessories for children & adults, plush toys, glass works, and home goods – as well as fine art works at affordable prices. This will be an ideal opportunity to buy some extra special handcrafted gifts and cards for your loved one, or you may just want to treat yourself.

The next ARTE market will be held on Friday, 4th February, 2011 at Festival Centre (12pm-9pm) and on the following Friday, 11th February, 2011 at Times Square Center (12pm-7pm).

The market will feature over 60 extraordinary artists, craft artists, and artisans, representing diverse genres. All live and create their work in the UAE. Some of our favourite local crafters will be selling their V'day themed wares - including felt and tin love hearts, handmade chocolates and toffees, as well as a large selection of one-of-kind costume and precious jewellery pieces.

We have quite a few things to go over today... some are little reminders, others are bigger stories. Put the kettle on, make a cup of tea, sit back, read and plan ahead....

HARD TIMES
We all know from our own experiences that with the credit crisis still alive and kicking, and with the festive season now over, we really need to work hard to get the customers to come to our markets.
Our visitors are having an awesome opportunity to buy straight from the creator, cutting out so many middle men taking their margin. Help us spread the word of ARTE's uniqueness. Print the 4 posters on one sheet (attached) and hand them out at your clinic, salon, club, compound, apartment block, school, office or get a load of bookmarks and use those instead. Email the bigger E-poster to your friends; ask them to join you on your own facebook, or the ARTE group and fanpage pages. If you are a tweeter, get tweeting. We are such a wonderful colourful community group, let others get to know us. Help us spread the word and add this to your New Year's resolution to play your part in keeping ARTE the biggest and best art & craft market in the UAE.

We have had the municipality screen our ARTE food court in December and we have drawn up a document to adhere to the local food hygiene law. Most of it is common sense, but just read it and work by it.

A new TWO DAY EVENT - The Greens & The Views on 28 & 29 Jan 2011 from 10am till 6pm - don't miss it!!!
ARTE have managed to negotiate a 2 day exclusive Arts and Crafts market at The Greens & The Views to support Emaar's community event.
ARTE has invested in 25,000 flyers being distributed to the whole Emaar community and with the effort put in by all partners and sponsors it is expected that this is going to be a hugely successful event with a great community aspect to it.

Facts - Two Day Emaar Event in The Greens & The Views:
Twenty (20) stalls only
Full weekend bookings only, no single days
Only Handmade in the UAE need apply
Rate Dhs 350 for two days
Set up is from 8am, but needs to be completed by 10am
Vendors must fully tend to their stall between 10am to 6pm. Late arrivals and early leaving will be frowned upon!!!

For this event we need more notice to get the vendor quantity right. Therefore the deadline for your registration is Monday 24th January, 1pm. However once the 20 vendors have been reached, bookings will close. The email bookings will be accepted on a first come first served basis.

NEW DATE for your calendar - RAK / March 2011
Following a great experience in December we are going back to the Al Hamra mall in Ras al Khaimah on Friday 23rd March. Please enter this into your calendar. The Al Hamra mall is a wonderful location that is easy to find with good parking and easy access to where the market is set up. It has some fabulous stores in it, together with some worthy key shops. More details later.

Competition time
In February we would like to hold a competition at both DFC and TSC events. The best dressed stall will be getting a 50% reduction off their next registration. We are going to try to run this through our ARTE Facebook fanpage. The theme for February will be Valentines.
We encourage you to follow the theme of love, affection, dreams, pink, hearts, kisses, cuddles, presents, gifts, cards and help spread love and kindness across the globe. Let us see what your hearts are made of at your stall.

We will also be setting up an album for ARTE valentines gifts on our Fan Page – please add as many good photos as you like and tag them against your name…this will give our customers an idea of what will be available at the markets.

New Year resolutions!!!
We thought we would help you with a few new years’ resolutions to make this your best year yet!
1- Keep a Calendar
Get organised ahead of time, and keep a calendar to help you keep track of important dates, deadlines and commitments. Stop the all night working so you are fresh on ARTE days and avoid annoying the people around you. A clear head, an organised start is best for good business. This year, keep a simple calendar such as on Google or use a pretty little handmade agenda to mark down everything you need to make this year productive and hassle-free. Your customers, peers and other important people will thank you and you'll be grateful for how good it feels to not have to keep everything in your head or scattered in various places.

2- Build a Mailing List
This is something that many of the ARTE vendors either do not understand the value of, or do not understand how to start one. Either way, this is something you ought to change in order to stay on top of the networking starting with your existing clientele. A major way to drive new sales, traffic and interest to your stall at ARTE is by growing a mailing list following of customers, potential customers, peers and fans who want to hear about your work, promotions and any other special tips you may have to offer.

It's easy to get started and a site many peers and colleagues I know use is Mail Chimp, which offers a forever free account for up to one thousand (1000) subscribers!. Other ways to get people on your list (the right way -no spamming allowed) is to ask new customer passively via a thank you convo, put out a sign up sheet at the market.

3- Market More
Did you carve out enough time for marketing, especially via social media. When things get crazy (holiday sales, intense client workload and plans for the future) you end up spending more time working and less time marketing, which seems okay at the time but once you're workload dies down, you'll wish you had consistently marketed, even if it was only 10 minutes a day, in order to have garnered more steady work over time.

4- Overcommit Less
Understand the value of time. Know which activities are most profitable. Concentrate on those activities and do not chase work that is not going to benefit you. Therefore you can deliver a more consistent and valuable product to your customer that costs less due to less time wasting by simply changing your perspective.

5- Keep Accounts
Do you record your costs that you incur for your products... are your tools included, how about the petrol for your car, or the taxi ride, or your waiting time in traffic, the materials that you require. Be truthful to yourself, and list all costs that relate to the making of your product.

6- Retake Crappy Photos
ARTE needs good high resolution photographs of your work, and also some great words that describe your art or craft or design. Have these ready now for when the call comes that we need your input fast. Start your networking to get your imagery right. In March 2011 www.gulfphotoplus.com will be running another week's worth of amazing photography courses, go online after 18th January to find the schedule and see what helps you take better shots. Your networking force wants to see your work, and not only receive your linked tweets or fb messages. Work on a proper album and a fabulous product port folio filled with photos that sparkle and really present your brand. Ask another vendor to help, don't necessarily blame the camera, a white background light box might help, but work together with friends or family on this.

7- Add More Price Points
Try going into Etsy shops (www.etsy.com) and see the variety of price points carried by sellers. Recently I was browsing in an accessories shop and noticed that the price points went from wallets (lowest) to clutches (low) to runched handbags (medium) to messenger bags (high) to long strapped diaper bags (highest). When I looked at the seller's sold items, I was blown away by the fact she had close to 1000 sales in just over a year. Besides offering a hearty amount of variety in styles and colors, she successfully staggered price points in the same category of product (accessories, more specifically bags) which means she gets people going in for something small and coming back for much more in the near future.

To do price points successfully, don't go off and make something higher or lower priced to what you currently offer if it doesn't work with your current collection - instead sit down and brainstorm things that complement your current products and give you the chance to use similar materials.

8- Carve Out a Better Work Space
Resolute for 2011 to create a proper place to work that you can call your own, a hub if you will, for you to create things, write, market and more. Set up your own hub with whatever free space you can muster surely we creatives can come up with an immaculate workspace even if it's tiny and stop scattering your business all around your residence.

9- Take a Day Off
If you're one of the many burnt out vendors floating around, I bet this is already high up on your New Year's resolution list. You may have spent a majority of 2010 working days, evenings, early mornings, weekends and more to get your business off the ground. Whether you have a day job or are doing this full time, realize that getting too much done without ever taking a break can lead to a failed business.

Many sellers realize that if they don't spend part of their year taking time away to refresh their creativity and recharge their batteries, they won't do as well as they could. Make a point to take every weekend off or if you work a day job, keep a couple evenings a week to yourself for something non art or craft related.

10- Skip the disfunction
Did you do something this year that just didn't work out the way you thought it would? Are your choices of markets working it out, is your blog or tweeting making a difference to your client base. First of all reseach why it did not work out, then catagorise for 2011 that you should not repeat these actions or activiites. Mishaps are easily forgotten and romantisized in the future. Make a list! skip what did not work altogether in 2011.

11- Learn More, Do More
Make sure you set aside time each week (hey, even your work lunch break would make a great time) to learn something new and implement the idea into your business. With blogs like The Storque, Ittybiz, Meylah, The Launch Coach, Tara Gentile and Craft MBA, you have an endless source of places to find helpful ideas for improving your business, so get cracking already.

12- Organize Paperwork
Get your paperwork on track in a flash. Get files, some dividers and just do it! Chuck most is my personal advice! It may take some time, but it is worth it.

13- Keep Better Track of Inventory
You can do this easily with a simple spreadsheet or go all out with fancy software but make a point this year to keep materials and inventory better organized and accounted for. It will save you tons of money and while the time you need to do this does add up - it means you'll know exactly what you can make.

14- Set Regular Hours
Try to balance your busy day, but setting aside regular hours for this and that, so you don't feel you are on top of things on the left side, but you have crashed on the right side.

15- Beautify Your Copy
The press is craving copy for their magazines, websites, newspapers. Just because you don't have a way with words doesn't mean you should just throw up some random bits of information in your product listings and hope they sell. Sit down and quietly channel the feelings and story behind your product, then set out to write a sweet paragraph about yourself, you never know when it will come in handy, as ARTE is always being asked for press articles.

Trust me - it will make a world of difference and give potential customers great insight into who you are and what you do (which of course, will help you sell more, more, more). Just don't forget the important details too!

16- Make Necessary Investments
Think long and hard about what you need to buy this year for your business - besides materials of course - and go ahead and do it. You may have been putting these types of purchases off but if it means bettering your business (and sales too) then it's wise to make these investments as soon as you can afford to.

These important yet larger purchases could be anything from a new digital camera (something with amazing focus), a laptop (so you can finally work at Starbucks) or even more simple - a shipping scale or higher quality work tools.

17- Get Out of Your Comfort Zone
If you didn't take any big chances this year, 2011 is the time to do it. Go out there and get it, whatever it is that will make your success grow, now is the time to do it.

18- Aim for More Press
The easiest thing you can do in the New Year is subscribe to several sites helping people get more press. One of those sites comes highly recommended - it's called Create Hype, and all you need to do is sign up and I'll send you a weekly email with a website you can submit your work to for consideration of blog or magazine press!

Good Luck with your resolutions. Start thinking Valentines Day (14th February), Book your table for ARTE in Times Square Center and also The Greens.

Hello Artisans of the Emirates

January 2011 is just around the corner and ARTE moves forward with the ticking of the clock and rather than making a new start we intend to continue with the successful formula that we together have developed over the last few years. We are therefore very proud to invite you again to register for the January markets in Dubai Festival City Centre and Times Square Center, on 7th and 14th January respectively. The registration form is attached. This is also available from our website on www.arte.ae

A few notes:

Facebook fan page networking
Many of the ARTEsans have facebook Fan Pages, if you have one too, please put your link on the ARTE fanpage, and network. Ask people to LIKE you. We all have these wonderful pockets of friends and clients, it would be great to share the quality of art and craft handmade in the UAE and invite our 'friends' to come to the ARTE markets.

Facebook tagging
Feroz, the ARTE photographer takes many stall, vendor and product photographs and these are uploaded onto our facebook pages. Please have a look at them and find your own images and tag them, so that our visitors to the fb know who is behind the product. I have just gone through over a 1000 images, and it took my breath away. You are all such amazing artisans, you are all doing fabulous unique work. Thank you for featuring at the ARTE markets. Now, go tag!!!!

New ARTE market locations
At the last minute before we were going to sign off the deal on a 3rd location for an ARTE market, it fell through. As the saying goes: some doors close, other doors open. We have since received several (4) invites to take ARTE to other Emirates. We are working on these endeavouring to achieve the best for the ARTE group. Once we have facts we will share these with you in writing.

ARTE registration form
Many of the vendors sign up for both DFC and TSC most months. We have now redesigned the form, see attached and let us have your feed back. We can easily go back to the other way.

ARTE market payments - once again
Payments on the day are not possible, unless you come from out of town. Email info@arte.ae
Cash payments need to be made in advance to the Art House Dubai Gallery in Jumeirah 2, link is on our website.
Payments can also be made to the ARTE registration desk during ARTE events for future markets. Please prepare an envelope with the completed registration form and cash payment inside.
Deadline for payments is always the last Wednesday before an event, 1pm. Any payments received after that time or day will not be included in our equipment plan.

Light at the ARTE markets
Always a difficult issue for the vendors. Please bring your own extension lead and lamps, we will find a way to plug you in somewhere.

ARTE food court in Times Square Center only
We have recently been visited by 'the municipality' and we need to make some adjustments. If you are a food vendor please email me for the details and in a day or so check the website for the facts.
Please note that food sales are only permitted at ARTE Soukh in Times Square Center and NOT at DFC.

Students from GEMS Wellington International will present 10 different business models at ARTE - Artisans of the Emirates - market on November 5, 2010

This weekend marks the return of the ARTE markets in November, which is one of the largest arts and craft fair events in the UAE, boasting over 110 local artist and artisans showcasing and selling their wares. The next ARTE market will be held on Friday, 5th November, 2010 at Festival Centre, Dubai Festival City (12pm-9pm) and the following Friday, 12th November, 2010 at Times Square Center (12pm-7pm).
The bazaars will feature a wide selection of unique handmade crafts and one-of-a-kind creations where visitors will find everything from the unusual to the unique sure to fit every taste and budget. In preparing for ARTE, Business Studies student entrepreneurs founded working companies to brainstorm craft ideas, to learn a valuable ‘real-world’ lesson about the intricacies of business, marketing and promotions. The day will allow students to experience all facets of being in an actual business environment.
Through a tough Dragon’s Den like interview and grilling; the 9 companies competing at ARTE are:

About ARTE
Artisans of the Emirates was founded in 2005 by Miriam Walsh, a felt maker, and Paul Townsend, a silversmith; both experienced artisans regularly featuring at the fairs in Dubai and long-term residents of Dubai.
Many of the craft fairs in Dubai at that time included a high percentage of imported goods of varying quality and often produced in bulk. Mixed with a sense of dissatisfaction of how other events were run, Paul & Miriam decided to set up their own Artisan of the Emirates community to showcase the quality work produced by talented individuals living in the UAE.
ARTE has seen a rapid increase in membership since 2005; it now boasts over 1600 members, from at least 30 different countries, with items as diverse as contemporary silver jewellery, haute couture clothing, artistically designed cakes for special occasions, Waldorf dolls, pottery, crochet items, silk & wool felted scarves, hats & bags, photography and digital art plus painting styles ranging from oils, watercolours and acrylics to pencil drawings and 3-d mixed media pieces. ADVERTS & ARTE Poster
Please print the poster that we will send you in A5 size, your photocopy shop will also do this from your USB memory stick. The supermarkets prefer that size on their notice boards. We are planning to do a massive poster drop off at the main supermarkets from Jumeirah 1 to the Meadows and beyond. Can you help in the other areas?

We have added a FB advert to our collection of monthly advertisements in a few days. Let us know when you see it.

ARE YOU SELLING at ARTE ETSY?
We are asked every month by the press for high resolution images. Feroz & Tamer go round regularly with their cameras to take shots that we can use for that purpose. It is only a bit more work for you to also scramble some details together on your product and postage rates and you are then ready to launch your item on the ARTE ETSY page. We are selling well through that medium. We only accept enquiries for this from vendors who are participating in ARTE events on a regular basis. Paul Townsend is in charge of the ETSY store on ARTE, so please email him on paul@arte.ae

FOOTFALL & TABLE LAY OUT TSC
TSC October had again another increase of ARTE footfall compared to the footfall of the same month last year.

Footfall pulled in by ARTE is more difficult to measure in DFC since they have a number of additional events most weekends.

We are again exploring the opportunity to bring ARTE stalls outside the Toys R US Sharaf DG shops on the first floor of the mall. We have received some feedback from the vendors and mall management and due to TSC changes and screening of stores, there will be a revised floor table lay out. Please realise that at any one time we can only accommodate approximately 30 vendors near the Cafe area, which is less than one third of the total ARTE vendors. The top floor draws the highest footfall in the mall. There is also power available and fabulous light from the sky window above.

HOUSEKEEPING TSC
We have been reminded not to stick anything to the walls or pillars in TSC. Blue tack and different quality sticky tapes are often very difficult to remove and are no longer permitted. Please remember this when you set up. Thank you.

PR & Bookmarks
If you have any bookmarks left please start distributing them at your club, clinic, school, hair salon. The dates advertised on the bookmarks run out in December.

Registration ARTE markets
Print the registration form, and fill it in. Collect the correct amount of cash and drop this with the form to Art House Dubai Gallery. They are located on the Al Wasl Road, villa 422. This is opposite the Emarat petrol station, which is next to the Jumeirah Post Office. The gallery has a blue steel gate. The staff in the Gallery are not part of the team, Art House Dubai only functions as a drop off point for the forms with payments.

YOUNG ENTERPRISE PROGRAMME
Wellington International School have selected another 10 enterprisers who will be launching their business projects developments during this past school year at ARTE in November. Please come and say hi to the students and give them your feedback, and browse through their products. They need the responds to their initiatives from the public.

SAFE & SOUND - ARTE in PINK
The response to our participation in the awareness campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness has been absolutely tremendous. We have raised nearly 4000 Dhs, which is enough to provide a few free breast cancer scans and make a donation towards the education of Jean's children who are now orphaned. The funds will be donated to the Safe & Sound project organiser in the Bur Juman, we are just waiting for the last donations to come in. Thank you all for being so supportive, it has been awesome. Thank you!

Please visit ARTE Soukh in Times Square Center in Dubai, this Friday, 8th October between 12 noon and 7pm and support us in our drive to raise funds for the breast cancer awareness programmes in the UAE.
We have had a huge response to the call for ARTE in Pink.... It seems that many in our midst are one way or another way affected by cancer. As a result many of the more than 100 vendors are helping to raise funds.
Just a few snippets:
Toffee Princess has delicious pinked fudge, House of Colour, Helen A, Hayet Zerelli, Heba Younis join the fundraising as well, so are Rohini of Ragmataz, Laila Lambert with her beautiful pink bracelets, Raina Chadra has made an awesome paper angel jewellery designs in pink. WHARF is delighted to be back and is donating 200pcs buttons badges with design related to this campaign. Aside from that, WHARF will also be having other Pink collections of Wall Clocks and stickers, and are planning to give all the other funds of the Sale of WHARF items to their friend, a widow with 4 beautiful girls who is fighting stage 4 cancer. Bekky Britton of Lilybakes is baking pink cakes and will offer cooky decorating on the day in a variety of pink shades of icing.
As quite a few other vendors, Treva will donate 10% of her sales of items of her collection of semi precious stone - desert & bonsai trees and handpainted gourds with pink wildflowers from UAE and Oman. There are many more to quote.... but better is, visit us and see!

ARTE in Pink
Since October is breast cancer awareness month, we have decided to see if ARTE can do its bit to help this great cause. We have sent press releases to UAE press explaining that vendors will be doing their bit towards this great charity. So what can you do?

It can be as simple as donating a fixed amount or % of your takings, or maybe you would like to create a one off masterpiece or a small selection of pink products from which the proceeds are donated. We will leave it up to you to. We are sorry for the short notice but we all know you like a challenge every now and again, and who knows, ARTE may even hand out a free stall to the best idea :o) . At the end of each market in Festival City and Times Square please drop your donations off at the Registration table.

We have several vendors who will be supporting the campaign by donating part of their sales. for the moment these vendors are: Michelle Doss custom made certificates, Hayet Zerelli's North African style jewellery, Rohini Ragmatazz bags and rags, Paul Townsend's silver pink ribbon and Liz Rubi's silver works.

About ARTE
Artisans of the Emirates was founded in 2005 by Miriam Walsh, a felt maker, and Paul Townsend, a silversmith; both experienced artisans regularly featuring at the fairs in Dubai and long-term residents of Dubai.
Many of the craft fairs in Dubai at that time included a high percentage of imported goods of varying quality and often produced in bulk, mixed with a sense of dissatisfaction of how other events were run, Paul & Miriam decided to set up their own Artisan of the Emirates community to showcase the quality work produced by talented individuals living in the UAE.
ARTE has seen a rapid increase in membership since 2005; it now boasts over 1600 members, from at least 30 different countries, with items as diverse as contemporary silver jewellery, haute couture clothing, artistically designed cakes for special occasions, Waldorf dolls, pottery, crochet items, silk & wool felted scarves, hats & bags, photography and digital art plus painting styles ranging from oils, watercolours and acrylics to pencil drawings and 3-d mixed media pieces. The soukhs offer the ideal venue for gift buyers, or those just looking for locally made quality art and crafts as a lasting memory of the Arabian region.

NO Fixed Bookings & Lucky Draw for all
We will NOT be doing any fixed bookings for the area between Caribou Cafe and the Elevators. Except for a handful of vendors who have been coming to ARTE Soukh since September 2005 on a monthly basis. We feel we owe them for their commitment through high and low seasons and the creation of ARTE. All tables are therefore given out on a Lucky Draw System.

If you book two tables or if you would like to be next to your friend we will have a separate lucky draw system for the double units.

Floor Space in TSC
As we are all aware Times Square is going through an episode of change. On the ground floor some more shops have closed temporarily due to a big renovation that they are working towards. This has resulted that another kiosk has gone into ARTE area. TSC provides plenty of space for all vendors, and the management of TSC and I as well (Paul is less excited) are keen to use the space on the first floor. Please visit this area and have a look to see how you like it. Let us know.

Grumbles & Encouragement & Pricing
During the summer period we received a strong email from a vendor who was absolutely unhappy with his sales after only spending a short time at the ARTE Market.......and he then left. I hope that all vendors look at ARTE as a place not only to try and earn some extra money, but also a place where we meet like minded people, were we get inspired and encouraged, where we make new friendships, where we find that part of ourselves that gives us a happy glow, a smile on our face and a lovely sense of contentment.
We also receive emails about people who are not sure what to charge and who deal with low budgets. The overheads you face such as market fees, transport costs, postal charges, materials costs, your time to think, experiment and create, your baby sitter, tools of your trade, should all be included in your sales price. Whatever you like to exclude is entirely your personal choice, but when you make your business plan, your spread sheet you need to consider the above points and perhaps more that i have left out. The price of your product is not purely the cost of the material. Honour yourself, stand your ground for your work, design and effort. We see way too many cheap products at ARTE and that brings the overall tenor down. Look at how much profit do you make on selling something cheap. In my experience you have to sell a stack load of cheap stuff to equate that profit if you sell a quality inventive product that comes with a price tag.

This Friday sees the ARTE Eid Market in Dubai Festival City Centre, where we are located near Ikea and the HyperPanda store and we would love to see you there as a vendor, or, as a customer!

Vendors need to know:
Set up 10am and we close the Market at 10pm.
Fee Dhs 125 per station for art plus rack, or craft plus table.
Parking is in the PM car park near Ikea, please do not park in any other area of the Centre.
Deadline payment: Wednesday by 1pm in Art House Dubai Gallery on Al Wasl Road in Jumierah 2. If you live out of town, please email me for an alternative suggestion.

Products: no food and only genuine artistic, creative products that you have made in the UAE. Please do not resell any items bought elsewhere. And, make sure that your work is unique and of high quality.

I have attached the registration form and the poster that you can forward to friends and colleagues by email.

Hello ARTE members,

A warm hello to all of you! Here follows a general update on Festival City Centre and also Times Square Center ARTE markets.
I apologise for the delay in sending this email. I am in Europe at the moment and the days seem to fly by. Any bookings for ARTE on 27th August have to be 'done' by 1pm tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday. Apologies.

Some numbers
· We have had a huge increase in new vendors and our database now lists more than 1600 names. All of these people have been in touch with us at some stage during the last 5 years and asked to be considered as a potential vendor showcasing their art or craft.
· The Summer ARTE Markets in Dubai Festival City have seen another marker: we have had nearly 45 new vendors featuring at these events.
· Our Facebook is also pretty healthy: last week, we had 127 monthly active users, 326 people like us, and we had 554 visits.

Aug / Sep - Summer ARTE Ramadan / Eid Markets - Dubai Festival City Centre
The quiet season must be over. It was noticeable that Dubai's Summer travellers are returning to base - the Ramadan ARTE Market last Friday showed a healthy increase in footfall.
There are two more Ramadan markets and one Eid market, before we return to Times Square Center where we will re-start our normal monthly rota.
It would be great to see you as a vendor at any of our markets. It is time for networking and prepping your clients for the merry winter season ahead of us.

27th August & 3rd September – ARTE Ramadan Markets - Dubai Festival City Centre
The location of the market is on the Mezzanine floor near Ikea and Hyperpanda.
The Ramadan Market set up at Dubai Festival City Centre is at 5pm. The market is widely advertised from 6pm till 11pm, but you can stay on till midnight if you would like to.
The fee is Dhs 125 plus an extra Dhs 100 one-off membership fee for our newcomers.
Payment needs to be dropped off at Art House Dubai Gallery on Al Wasl Road, Villa 422. Also during Ramadan, the gallery is open all day from 10am till 7pm. Closed on Fridays.
Deadline for payments is Wednesday 1pm. Please email me as well to confirm your attendance.

10th September – ARTE Eid Market - Dubai Festival City Centre

The set up is from 10am and the ARTE Market will continue till 10pm.

A warm welcome back to all ARTE members who have returned from their summer holidays. We hope you are all refreshed and full of exciting new ideas for new products.
While you were away we have been busy running a weekly ARTE Market in Festival City Centre which has been very well received both by our vendors and customers alike.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Helen, Hayet, Stephen and Tamer for all their help in running this Market.

Facts TSC
The bookings form can be download from website http://www.arte.ae/booking.html, or email us and we will send it to you.
Please complete the form and together with the correct money, hand it into Art House Gallery, see detailed instructions and map on http://www.arte.ae/booking.html.
Set up is from 10am for the lucky draw system.
The Soukh itself is advertised from 12 noon till 7pm.
Fee is Dhs 200 per art space or craft table, plus the one-off newcomer's membership fee of Dhs 100.

House Keeping
Since we are constantly looking at ways of keeping ARTE true to its roots, we have been very strict recently in making sure that all products sold at ARTE (both in Times Square and Festival City) meet our rules of being locally designed and produced in the UAE. We unfortunately have had to ban a few new vendors who were selling imported and / or low quality (cheap and cheerful) products. The feedback received from existing members has proved that we took the right decision in doing this.
For Times Square, we have decided to continue with our raffle based table allocation in all areas (including the front). There will be a few reserved tables, but these will fall under the following exceptions…
Members who have been with us since we were formed in 2005, (this is our way of saying thank you for their loyalty)
Members who are helping us in the running/admin of Arte

ARTE PR assistant required
Many of you will have heard of, or met Jan D’Sa, our Arte PR person. She is embarking on a new phase in her career and has decided to discontinue her PR role for ARTE. So we are taking this opportunity to thank her for all her hard work over the years, for and on behalf of all of you. She will still be attending markets from time to time, so please take the time to stop by and thank her in person.
This leaves us with an opportunity for anyone who is interested in taking over this role.
We are looking for someone who has had previous experience of writing PR articles, and submitting them to the local media, and who can work on under their own initiative. We are willing to discuss how this can be mutually beneficial to both parties so please send in your CV to us as soon as possible.

ARTE continue to be holding its well known handcrafted soukh throughout Ramadan and Eid. Each Friday from now till 10th September will see this great group of nearly 60 Artisans of the Emirates showcasing their unique works of art and craft at the Dubai Festival City Centre.

If you would like to join our latest ARTE Market at Dubai Festival City this Friday, 20th August, email me now at info@arte.ae. Then print off the form that I sent you last week and take it with the correct money to Art House Dubai Gallery (see www.arthousedubai.com for location details).

If you have any questions please email me first as the gallery staff are not part of the ARTE team, the gallery is a drop off point for payments only. The deadline for the bookings is Wednesday 18th August at 1 pm. Any bookings dropped off after that time, will not be included.

The Ramadan Summer ARTE Market in Dubai Festival City Centre is near Ikea and Hyperpanda supermarket. The Market is located on the Mezzanine floor. Set up is from 5 pm and take down between 11 pm and 12 midnight.

1. Selling at markets requires stamina. We commend those who have been weekly regulars at the ARTE Market in DFC for their commitment. Well done. It takes something special to be focussed at all times, constantly smiling, entertaining, kind and polite.

13th August Update

From our side, the team is content with the organisation of the ARTE Markets - we have it down to a great routine. If you have any suggestion for change just let us know. With an average of 40 vendors each weekend at present we are happy to be able to give you all a bit more space around your table, and hand out some extra racks to the artists. The lucky draw system works well too, we do however get some questions for a redraw now and then, which we kindly reject. If you would like to choose your own space, you can pay for 5 markets and we will then be more than happy to give you the privilege of a space or place of your choice.

13th August will be the first of the Ramadan ARTE Market in Dubai Festival City . The set up is at 5pm; the mall closes at 1am; we expect people to attend to their stalls from 6pm till 11pm. We recommend that if you are not able to stay for the whole period that you will find someone who can assist whilst you break your fast at Iftar or go for prayers. We have been asked to make sure that all stalls are attended between those hours.

During Ramadan I will leave the on the floor managing of ARTE in the good hands of both Hayet and Helen. The ladies have the full ARTE authority to give guidance and advice on stall designs and product quality. Please adhere to the ethos of ARTE Market, we only permit those amazing products that we have talked about again and again these last few weeks. Just note that whilst i am on my summer travels that I will try to stay on line and receive your emails. So stay in touch! We love to hear your stories and receive your bookings, and read your suggestions.

Festival City 6th August

Booking 6th August / Feedback 30th July ARTE Market / and more…….

August ARTE e-poster, for the registration form please email info@arte.ae. If you would like a slot at this Friday’s Market, or for a later date, please email ARTE now on info@arte.ae . Please note that only high quality, original, unique, one of a kind, handmade-in-the-UAE products can be displayed. We are thereby following the instructions of the Dubai Festival City management, but also carrying the ethos and spirit of ARTE.

We will continue the ARTE Markets in Festival City until the end of Ramadan / Eid (10th September is the last Summer ARTE Market event date), on a weekly Friday basis, and we will start again in Times Square Center on September 17.

A few things:

1. Those who came to the 30th July Market did a great job. All items looked genuine and the displays were interesting and filled with charming items. We will continue to monitor products being offered for sale by the vendors to ensure we maintain the right quality.

2. Despite this time of year, we still have a good variety of interesting stalls: Rowena with her slogan buttons and clocks, Michelle makes personalised certificates on the spot, Rebecca and the personalised towels and robes, Heba and her slinky silk dresses, Anne-Marie and her unique precious stone jewellery collection set in rhodium, silver and gold, Rohini and the tribal collection of jewellery and fabrics, just to mention a few. You want to join them? Come forward!

3. DFC seems to be continuing to hold steady the footfall to the mall during the summer.

4. Please note that from our side we need to comply with the DFC’s management guidelines. No extra personal tables can be brought to ARTE. We do not have the permission from the mall for this; it also makes the stalls look scruffy, as well as taking space away from your neighbour's area. If you need some extra space then you are welcome to reserve a second table..…there are several vendors that do so already. However, with the number of vendors slightly lower this week, I will ask the installation team to allow for some extra space between the tables, so there is enough space for any display rack, cloths rack and sewing machine.

5. The ongoing comment we receive and see is that thre are too many jewellery stalls compared to non-jewellery stalls. Paul is back soon and he and I will then discuss and decide on a quota for the ARTE markets. Note again, that jewellery vendors whom we will consider are those that truly have a passionate, strong identity in their collection range and set up. A flat table with a wide variety of styles and cheap beads is not going to make the cut.

6. Payments:
A. we need to receive your payment and registration form by Tuesday 6pm. Any forms left at the gallery after that time / date may not be included in the requirement list. Make sure you are on time.
B. you can also pay us at the market in advance for the next week. Simply handover the registration and cash to the ARTE registration desk, Miriam or a team member and when you reach home, remember to drop an email to info@arte.ae to confirm that you have made the payment.

7. Table cloths – The new table cloths look great and improve the overall presentation of the market to our customers. However, the laundry lady is asking for you to be more careful with food and drinks on your table cloth. We have less tables, but the laundry bills are increasing. Help us and try to keep your table cloths clean. Thank you for your cooperation.

8. The Ramadan hours for the ARTE Market will be from 6pm till 11pm, with a set up from 5pm. The quiet days of ARTE are over!
I must have received 8 requests from magazines for more information on ARTE, and I would like to thank Jan D'Sa, Tamer and Feroz for their dedicated and unlimited support. Today we have a quarter page feature in 7 Days and next week we will have the article in Gulf News. We will be in the National, Emirates Home, Ahlan and Connector magazine in the near future. We are grateful for all the publicity.

We are so in demand not only by the press but also by potential vendors. Please help us - your products have to fit this profile:
No commercial products
No products bought locally or internationally for the purpose of reselling
ONLY high quality, unique, one of a kind, well made products that resonate ART and / or CRAFT
No products that may clash with what is in the stores in the Dubai Festival City Centre mall complex
Products are Handmade in the UAE.
And know that if we see products that are not clearly fitting the ethos of ARTE, that we as the management reserve the right to ask you to remove those items from your display, or, in some cases pack up and leave, or dis-allow any future participation in the markets.
Also, note that we do NOT refund any registration fees in case of the above.

IF vendors or potential vendors are unsure about their line, please email us and send photographs of your work.

Jewellery & Accessory Stalls
We are inundated with new jewellery stalls, as well as existing vendors branching out into jewellery. Please note that we have reached our quota and that we are getting ready to pick and choose our jewellery and accessory vendors. We will be looking for vendors whose collection strongly presents an identity has a personal style
has a high quality level and shows an interesting and unique approach.
If you are not sure what it is that i mean, email us and we will try to explain again. The space is limited in Festival City, and we expect an increase in vendor tables after the summer leading up to Christmas. We will then only permit those accessory vendors who truly have an in-depth collection of high line quality pieces that are made for quality buyers.

Pricing & Discounts
A bracelet of Dhs 10 still has the following components: design time, making time, time in transport, parking fees, petrol costs, time in the shop, material costs not only in the form of beads, wire and locket but also the tools, the needle, scissors. Do you have a helper assisting you? Then calculate her time too, it would only be fair. Add all of the above together, work out your profit and then tell me if this is a good reflection of who you are. Surely your time and effort and design is worth more than Dhs 10 for a bracelet......? Look at your pricing structure! (A friend of mine in the artisans business, thought she was making a good profit, but when her husband asked her to keep a proper profit & loss spread sheet she sadly realised that she was making a nasty loss by the end of her year. And after years of working, she decided that her time was up and they closed the craft business. She has been a great example to me. Please make ARTE and your work worth your while!)

Discounts - part of our community thrives on it. However a buyer who truly appreciates the uniqueness of your design would not dream of bartering you into the ground and making you feel cheap. I recommend you kindly decline and I encourage you to stick to a fixed pricing policy. If we all do, we will wean out the unappreciative buyers and draw a much better quality visitor to the market.

Customer Quality
We are not a flea market, and we do not wish to draw the interest of those types of buyers to ARTE. Again, if we have to select vendors we will exclude the ones that are selling cheap items and focus on the true artisans who appreciate and respect themselves and their work. In this way we will build the ARTE brand and draw a higher quality clientele to the Market and Soukh.

The Dubai Drummers and the Feline Friends Charity Secondhand Book stall are joining 40 Artisans of the Emirates at the ARTE Market in Dubai Festival City on Friday 23rd and 30th July.

The drummers will be doing their interactive show from 3.30pm, and Feline Friends will be there all day selling from their wonderful collection of secondhand books. The Artisans will be showing their own Handmade in the UAE art and craft items.

We hope to see you there for an artistic creative browse and some drumming fun.

20th July, 2010 – Feline Friends and Dubai Drums participate in the ARTE Market in Dubai Festical City

Artisans of the Emirates (ARTE) is proud to announce that Feline Friends and Dubai Drums will be joining the Artisans in the Dubai Festival City on 23rd and 30th July.

Feline Friends is a non-profit making organisation staffed by volunteers who bring relief and care to the feral/stray, domestic and abandoned feline population in the United Arab Emirates. They will be present from 12pm till 9pm selling from their wonderful collection of secondhand books.

Dubai Drums, founded by Julie Ann-Odell, will be doing their interactive show from 3.30pm onwards. This show is open to the public to participate.

This is in addition to the forty ARTE-sans who will be showcasing their unique handcrafted works of art and craft. ARTE will continue its summer markets at the Festival Centre in Dubai Festival Centre in Festival City, Ground floor near Ikea) from 10am till 9pm every Friday throughout July and August till the end of Ramadan.

I would like to introduce myself, my name is Morwenna and I am the Marketing and Events Coordinator for Mercato.

I just wanted to let you know about an event that we will be holding in Mercato in a couple of weeks. We are looking for 6 UAE based artists to bring their street drawings to life in our Community Art Competition. Using only chalk the challenge is to bring Mercato’s DSS theme –Snapshots of Summer – to life on the pavements of Mercato. The artists will start their drawings on the 29th of July and will complete them by Saturday the 31st of July. The public will then vote for their favorite and the winning artist will win a holiday for 2 to Florence, Italy.

Dear ARTE members

Over the past few years we have made a great effort to build and establish the ARTE brand. At the ARTE markets in Times Square Centre and at Dubai Festival City we are proud to provide an outlet and an opportunity for genuine art and craft designers to display their craft & art work and skills. (We are well aware of the other markets such as school fairs, flea markets, etc, that exist in Dubai that provide alternative opportunities for vendors to sell their wares.)

We have perhaps become victims of our own success and recently we have noticed that some vendors have tried to take advantage of the popularity of the ARTE markets and have introduced products which do not satisfy the criteria which we have set as a condition of ARTE membership. The products on display at the ARTE markets have to be of the highest quality, unique design, one of a kind, original, and made with a genuine love and devotion, as well as these products have to be made in the UAE under the vendors’ management. This has also come to the attention of the mall management on whose patronage we rely.

Therefore, following an assessment of the products being displayed by a number of vendors in the past two weeks at Festival City, we have been obliged to advise certain vendors that they are not able to participate in future ARTE markets with their existing product range. It is with some regret that we have taken this action, but we consider it necessary to protect ARTE and to ensure that we maintain our unique selling proposition which both our members and our customers have come to expect from an ARTE event.

Festival City Feedback - 9th July ARTE Market

The mall was amazing, not a gap on the perambulators, and people pushing trolleys filled with Hyperpanda bags, other shopping or Ikea delights! We had a nearly full house with 68 vendors, and particularly the art corner finally did really well with many artists selling multiple pieces! All other vendors also ticked over, however the heavy footfall does not necessarily reflect sales. If you sign up, make sure that you bring your business cards for handing out - our visitors do seem to collect them with a passion.

Thank you all for your bookings, the ARTE team looks forward to welcoming you in Times Square Center on Friday 11th.
If my quick counting is correct, we will have 102 vendors on Friday, spread over 99 tables with 230 chairs and 18 art spaces.

Advertising
We have done our bit with advertising and emailing and we hope that you have done that too. Thank you to Liz R for putting up some posters at the supermarkets. Please push ARTE to your friends by text and email. It will only take a moment and your effort will benefit all of us at ARTE in Times Square Center.

Set up & Timing
Set up is from 10am. If you arrive early, please enjoy a coffee at Caribou Cafe, if you arrive later, the lucky draw table numbers will be less to draw from.
The market is till 7pm, please do not leave early.

ONLY Handmade in the UAE by YOU is our rule - please leave all products that do not fit this category at home. The locally purchased products or imported products are much cause for gossip and irritation and it really spoils some of the good that we are working towards for us all, the Artisans. Please cooperate and aim for quality and uniqueness, let your products be entertaining, exciting and beautiful.

Networking is much important at ARTE - bring your business cards! or simply write your details on a piece of paper - slab some paint over it and voila!

How to be...
Be friendly, chatty, don't push your buyer too much, have a mirror, bring a paper and pen to make notes with and take customer's orders or details... Talk about why you love your work, ask your client for their opinion. Get feed back. And, if your neighbour has a potential client walk up, whilst you two are chatting - please step back and allow space for your neighbour and her client to make the deal.

Racks - we only have enough racks for those who ordered and paid for one. Please do not help yourself.
We do have more wooden easels, if you need some more, please go to Paul, Stephen or Helen who will only be too pleased to help you out. Racks are rented out at Dhs 25 each. Remember some times these things take a moment to organise so be patient.

Table allocations: some tables or spaces will show an ARTE sign with a name or simply reserved sign. Please be polite and do not move these. Just for your information they are reserved for some of our Golden Olden Vendors who have been coming to ARTE since 2005 and others are reserved for those who have booked a double table. Thank you for your cooperation.

General stuff:
It is great that so many of you tell others about ARTE and the markets in FC and TSC. We have a huge amount of new applicants. But, can you also please tell them to contact us by email and to check out the website. New market vendors turning up at Art House Dubai Gallery on a Friday morning at 8.30am is not a good plan. The Gallery is closed, for instance! And the staff of Art House Dubai Gallery cannot answer any questions either! WE do! Just tell your friends to email info@ARTE.ae and it will be taken care of from there on. We love to help!

Art House Dubai Gallery,
The place where you drop of your payments, is ONLY a drop off station for the form and the payments. The staff are not informed of ARTEs latest developments, and they therefore cannot answer your questions. If you have any questions with regards to ARTE and YOU, please email themto info@arte.ae before you visit Art House Gallery. We reply very quickly. If you don’t hear from us, resend, we may not have received your mail.
Please note that you MUST bring your completed form from home to the Gallery and that you must have the correct cash attached to your form. Credit card payments are NOT permitted. Please be kind and and polite to the Art House staff, they are very Nice people and ARTE needs this location for your and our benefit.

Festival City change: IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

Festival City Centre ARTE Market update and changes
The first event near the Ikea and HyperPanda started off with a few problems (shortage of racks , and problems with a few commercial vendors) However, the day ended well, with most ARTEs satisfied with their sales, but, we have made the following decisions:-

All vendors must now pay for Festival City in advance, payments on the day will no longer be allowed (we are sorry for this).

Table set up is from 10am (not 12 noon)
NOTE: The team, need time to set up the market so Please DO NOT arrive before 10am, if you do, enjoy a coffee but allow us our time up to 10am so everything is ready for you. Thank you for your cooperation.

No More Commercial retail sellers, imported product vendors -
We thank you for your interest in ARTE but we have decided that from this day forward we will only permit for Art, Craft, Designers who make their own product here in the UAE. We do not permit any imported products, nor do we allow for any products that are bought locally for the purpose of re-selling. We have heard some disappointing stories about vendors buying items in the Dragon Mart etc and reselling these products at ARTE. If you are not sure if your product is valid or not, please do not hesitate to contact us on info@arte.ae.

Set up 10:00 hrs All vendors are required to sign in at the registration desk held by Helen & Hayet. this is also where you can collect your art rack. Any outstanding payments need to be made BEFORE you set up. Please help us by not having to chase after the registration fee.
Table Allocation through the lucky draw system
Timing Till 21:00 hrs
Fee Dhs 125 – the rate will be increased in September to Dhs 200. If you are a newcomer, there is also the Dhs 100 newcomers membership fee.
Art stands Only wire grid art panels are available, no wooden easels. Please provide your own hooks.
How to Register Print the form, take it with the cash to Art House Dubai gallery.
Products Only products handmade in the UAE. No products that have been bought locally or abroad for the purpose of reselling.
Deadline Tuesday 1st June, please note that we only have space for 72 vendors at present. if we receive bookings over that number, the last bookings in will be notified by email and text that sadly we cannot accept their payment for June.
Cancellation Please note that we need a minimum of 36 hours, no refunds after that time. Sorry!
Parking Either the P2 level of the Ikea car park on the right , or the P2 level of the Hyperpanda supermarket carpark on the left.

Set up 10:00 am, sign in at our Registration Desk opposite the escalator and draw your lucky table number, any outstanding payments need to be made there and then before setting up or settling down
Timing till 19:00 hrs
Fee Dhs 200 * see the form for details, Dhs 100 one off payment for NEW ARTE member, to be paid with your first market fee
Bookings Fill out the form attached, prepare the cash payment, take this to Art House Dubai Gallery in Jumeirah 2 on Al Wasl road
Deadline Tuesday 8th June, no late bookings will be accepted, books are closed after this date
Payment Only cash payments through the gallery, no payments on the day, except for out of town vendors (UA, AJ, RAK, FUJ, AA, AD)

Times Square Center update
We have checked with the TSC mall management and despite the fact that more shops have closed recently, the mall is there to stay and they continue with their search for the right pull store to move in. If you are interested in opening a store, or rent a cart, get in touch with the management of TSC. You never know you may be able to arrange a super deal.

Upstairs at Times Square – reduced rate - We keep getting much interest for the upstairs in TSC, but no takers. If we get at least 10 or more stalls for upstairs we will make the move into the light, lots of electricity power points and a steady footfall for Sharaf DG and Toys r Us and the food court.

The road signals have changed. On Sheikh Zayed Road, coming from the North, driving South, the RTA sign now says: D65 Al Marabea’ Street, Exit 43 Al Rasaas Street. Times Square Center is on the east side of the Sheikh Zayed road. Coming from the South, we have an additional sign that says Exit 42.

And more in general....

Food vendors
Please adhere to hygiene rules and handle your food items with gloves and wrap in appropriate packaging. Please collect your rubbish and dispose of in the bins provided. Thank you.

Bring lights and extension cords
If light is of a concern to you, bring you own lights and an extension cord as well as tape to tape down the wire. Please remove the tape from the floor before you leave. PLEASE NOTE we cannot guarantee access to a power point but we will try :o) Thank you for your cooperation.

Marketing
Photography – Feroz & Tamer are available to take pictures of your work for the ETSY page on the www.arte.ae website, but also for your brochures and websites. Please approach them and discuss a deal. You can contact Feroz Khan on feroz.k.khan@gmail.com and Tamer Khalifat on khalifat75@hotmail.com.

Numbers
After an administrative clear out, we have 1520 names on the ARTE mailing list, with 240 members on our Facebook fanpage. These are great numbers, and they give us a great variety of vendors in all aspects of art, craft and design.

ARTE is missing
We are however missing two categories at ARTE at present: quilters and scrapbookers. If you make quilts or scrapbooks for yourself or others and would like to market those for either selling them, or drawing more members into your own clubs, please come to ARTE and make our group complete by showing us your beautiful ware. We are a friendly bunch where the community spirit is paramount.

Supermarket advertising - thank you Sue for the supermarket advertising. the rental of your easel is a freebee at the next market, and we will then of course also reimburse your receipt.

Hello Artisans of the Emirates

Tomorrow we welcome you at Times Square Center for the May Soukh. Please read the following points carefully in order to avoid confusion.

At our recent market in Festival City Centre we have had an influx of commercial vendors who import their products from elsewhere and are not the artists behind the products on the table. This has caused a great unbalance within the group and with immediate effect we will not be able to give anybody a place who is not immediately behind the products they wish to sell. This means, that if you design your product but it is made outside the UAE that you are NOT able to join us at ARTE. At ARTE market and at ARTE Soukh we only permit for you to sell products that you are making or designing here in the UAE. You can have help of course, for instance if you are a photographer we do not expect you to print your print, if you are an artists we do not expect you to stretch your canvas, if you design clothes you can call in the assistance of a tailor, if you work with felt you can import your felt from elsewhere, if you make jewellery you can import your beads from elsewhere. However, the ready made products will not be showcased at ARTE. There is no re-selling at ARTE. If you are unsure about this, please email info@art.ae.

tomorrow, if you have any products that do not fit the accepted catagory of being handmade in the UAE, please be truthful and leave it in your box or case. If paul and I still have doubts about your product we may ask you to remove it from your display.

If the reminder of the ARTE rule seriously limits your display, and you would like to cancel your space for tomorrow, then email me back by return and i will refund you the cost of the table minus 75 dhs and drop this off at ART House Dubai Gallery on the Al Wasl Road.

Set up tomorrow = is from 10 am, please arrive on time, and NOT BEFORE. Paul and I need our space to set the tables, and brief our team of helpers. Enjoy a discounted coffee in Sun Cafe or buy a beverage in Caribou or any of the other outlets.

Table allocation = is done through the Lucky Draw system, draw your table number from our reception area opposite the escalator.

Racks and Easels = please note that you cannot help yourself to equipment (tables / racks / easels) unless you have booked it and paid for it. If you are not sure what you have booked and paid for, please check with our reception area near the escalator.

The Soukh closes at 7 pm, please do not leave early!

we so look forward to tomorrow, it is going to be a busy day. We have nearly 100 tables tomorrow and just less of 20 artists showing their art. Know that ARTE needs that support from you. We have done, and are doing our bit, but you need to help us by drawing arte into your community.

Artisans of the Emirates Profiles
We are surprised that we have received no new inputs for our Artisans of the Month section on our website which is very popular by our website visitors. Our site receives over 100,000 hits per month and the "Artisan of the month" regularly receive over 400 clicks. We need to keep the site exciting by adding more info about our dedicated vendors. Just give us the answers to the questions, and send us a picture of you with or without your products. Just Do It.

Upstairs at Times Square – reduced rate
Just a reminder, we are offering places upstairs in Times Square at a discounted rate of 175 Dhs. The spaces will be on the first floor will be near Toys R Us and Sharaf DG. Just tick it on the registration form which is attached and drop it off at Art House Dubai Gallery.

Supermarket advertising
We have not received any receipts for quite a few months for reimbursement of the costs to hang an ARTE poster on your regular supermarket notice board. It would be great if you could print the poster that we send you (should be with you in a week or so), and post it on your local supermarket, work notice board etc. If you do have to pay please keep the receipt and show it at the next market and we will re reimburse you the money.

ETSY on www.arte.ae
We are quite surprised that we have not received any new ETSY products recently (see http://www.artedubai.etsy.com ). This is a great platform and some of our vendors have done very well from it. We charge 8% commission for PayPal sales only (we do not charge a listing fee). Please contact us on etsy@arte.ae for more information.

Remember this - HANDMADE or IMPORTED
A special note to vendors who sell imported handmade products. The ARTE Soukh in Times Square Center is ONLY for vendors who make their own work here in the UAE. The reselling of imported items is not permitted. If you import and resell you can sign up for the ARTE Market in Festival City, but even there, your product has to be of a unique design, not available in the high street / main shopping malls, and has to be extremely well made and be art or craft. At Festival Centre we only have a few places available for vendors that resell imported handmade products, the focus remains on the work of the Artisans of the Emirates. Promoting yourself
Following a suggestion to personalise our E-flyer poster / advert, which we cannot do, we suggest that you actively take part in the ARTE fan page on Facebook. We have some vendors amongst us who already do this really well, but we would like to see all 100 vendors advertising what their art or craft is all about. Have a look and join in. We are also on Twitter, but that needs a bit more understanding and work from myself.
I will send you the poster / adverts in a few days. Then, pleases print them out and hang them on your local message boards. They also email easily, please send them to your customer base and why not add that you will be there selling XYZ. Good luck.

I will be one of the 100 vendors at Times Square Center this Friday and my display will also have Merino sheep’s wool for felt making and needle felting, handmade Waldorf dolls, a few scarves only (my wool stock only arrived this week) and Easter branch fairies. I am also preparing to do a hands on Easter egg felt making workshops (having fun with water, soap, plastic eggs and sheep’s wool) at only Dhs 15 per egg.

Checking the list, we are delighted to introduce our newcomers at ARTE Soukh:
Adele will be there with children’s fashion; Andrew with heavily framed amazing art and his own range of crafted furniture (chairs); Tricia will display her range of jewellery and Fleur will finally join us with her jewellery collection, she is also a craft teacher so find out more details when you meet her, whilst Hanna will showcase her greeting cards and home décor items. Iva, Manjiri, Shilpa and Sladjana are new artists to ARTE; Sabine will have her very subtle sea scape panels at the same time as Margaret Lambert does Arabic themed art. Monica showcases baby gifts and greeting cards, At present Nathanlie, Zafar and Harshani are busily baking divine cup cakes, delicious bake ware and healthy Indian snacks, we are also expecting Abda Otukar to do highly interesting demonstrations cooking with herbs and spices.

We look forward to greeting you at ARTE Soukh, the best & largest UAE market for your locally made art and craft and designs in fashion and furniture. We are in Times Square Center from 12noon till 7pm on Friday 12th March. See you there!

We have crossed 1400 members on our database! And we are on You Tube! We were interviewed by Xpress, so watch that space. We are featured in the Souq Scan in the Friday magazine, virtually every week. We were on 2 radio channels and we had vendors phoning in to the DJs for more ARTE advertising. If YOU see us in print, or hear us on the air, please let us know.

ARTE in Dubai Festival City in March will be outside on the Marina Terrace. We have limited slots available, so guarantee your spot with an email to info@arte now. And please check your email daily during the week of the event.

ARTE introduces another regular market venue in Dubai

ARTE has introduced a regular shopping venue where the public can buy original handcrafted work by ARTE artist and crafter members. The first Friday of every month will see ARTE market at the Festival Centre in Dubai Festival City, Marina Terrace. “ARTE has seen the birth of a new ARTE identity at the Festival Centre,” says Miriam Walsh, ARTE Management, “with a new colour in the logo and fabulous purpose built stalls to be delivered next month.”
ARTE members will continue to showcase their handicrafts at the Times Square centre on the second Friday of each month. Stalls will be tastefully decorated to celebrate Valentine’s Day – whether that means love or friendship, brotherhood or sorority. Be prepared to be greeted by huge smiles and happy hearts of ARTE’s vendors selling original Valentine’s themed gifts, alongside gifts for other occasions. One highlight of this soukh is the Color Nail Spa who are offering hair braiding and girly manicures to little princesses during the ARTE Soukh. In addition, Sun Café is offering discounted beverages to customers who have purchased food and other art and craft items from ARTE vendors.

So visit ARTE at the Festival Centre in Dubai Festival City, Marina Terrace on the 5th of February from 2pm till 9pm and at Times Square Centre on the 12th of February from 12pm till 7pm.

About ARTE:

Artisans of the Emirates was founded in 2005 by Miriam Walsh a feltmaker, and Paul Townsend a silversmith, both experienced artisans regularly featuring at the fairs in Dubai and long-term residents of Dubai.

Many of the craft fairs in Dubai at that time included a high percentage of imported goods of varying quality and often produced in bulk, mixed with a sense of dissatisfaction of how other events were run, Paul & Miriam decided to set up their own Artisan of the Emirates community to showcase the quality work produced by talented individuals living in the UAE.

ARTE has seen a rapid increase in membership since 2005; it now boasts over 1000 members, from at least 30 different countries, with items as diverse as contemporary silver jewellery, haute couture clothing, artistically designed cakes for special occasions, Waldorf dolls, pottery, crochet items, silk & wool felted scarves, hats & bags, photography and digital art plus painting styles ranging from oils, watercolours and acrylics to pencil drawings and 3-d mixed media pieces. The soukhs offer the ideal venue for gift buyers, or those just looking for locally made quality art and crafts as a lasting memory of the Arabian region.

The ARTE Soukh is now the regular haunt for around 100 different vendors and continues to offer a relaxed family atmosphere with plenty of hands on workshops for the visitors to try out.

ARTE in Times Square Center in January drew nearly 6000 people and many of our vendors had a good response to their beautifully handmade products. It was great to have 75 vendors displaying their fabulous work. We also continue to have a flood of new registrations, we are now near 1400 vendors on the database.

ARTE in Festival Centre at Dubai Festival City, Marina Terrace and near Toys R Us when the weather heats up, has seen the birth of a new ARTE identity. I hope you like our new corporate identity colouring for this venue, look out for the adverts in the press leading up to this event. We have also committed ourselves to a regular date during 2010: the first Friday of the Month. Plus we have started designing a purpose built stall and we hope to show a prototype at the February event.

2. Radio: we have support from Georgiebird and Catboy.

3. We are on Facebook fan page and the group which are both updated regularly.

4. We have a Google advert which has been running for the last month.

6. Claire T has hung the posters in 10 different supermarkets.

7. And then we have paid adverts in 7 Days, Connector, Express newspaper, FYI, Connector and Time Out magazine.

8. Jan D'Sa articles are now published in this week's and other weeks Friday magazine of the Gulf News.

9. And we have positioned ourselves on many websites in their free listings as well as in the What is On listings in many magazines and papers.

10. We also expect that you have done your share with the E-flyers, notice board posters and text messages to your friends and colleagues.

I expect that is more publicity then any other market event. There is a great confidence that we will receive a good response to the best local art & craft market in town. Looking at numbers this event might be the biggest ARTE event.

This Friday, 4^th December we look forward to seeing you as a vendor at the ARTE CAM market in Festival City / Trade Routes / Festival Marina side. Thank you for supporting us in developing this popular venue into another great ARTE location, we hear more and more that people know us to be in Festival City now too.

Car parking is in SILK 102 or 103 only. Follow the signs for the Festival Marina carpark.

Location in Trade Routes: you have already specified if you would like to be inside our outside. Thank you. However the outside location is now more flexible and we can be on the Festival Marina side of the Trade Routes building, as well as the Canal side of the Trade Routes building.

Payment: please prepare your payment in advance and give me an envelope when you arrive with the required fee and your name clearly written on the outside. Dhs 125, extra racks are Dhs 50 and these need to be pre-ordered.

Lights: after 4.30 pm the light changes and from 5.45 pm it is dark. The management have installed electricity points for us, but you need to bring your own extension cords and lights.

On behalf of the Abu Dhabi Municipality, Trompe L'oeil is organizing the 1^st Annual National Day Festival at the Formal Park on Abu Dhabi's Corniche. The festivities will commence November 26th, on the occasion of Eid Al Adha, and will go on until January 2nd 2009.

38 years of Unity represented by 38 days of celebration.

The theme of this celebration is centered around art, culture, music and local heritage. The objective is to serve the community by offering a family-oriented environment that includes musical entertainment, art exhibits, kids activities and many more exciting animations.

The park will be divided into different areas: The Souk area including kiosks and tents selling handicrafts products; The Art area including art exhibitions and an Art Souk; The Stage where Eid Al Adha and National Day celebrations will take place; The kids' games and activities area; The teenagers' corner and of course the food courts including restaurants and cafes offering a variety of cuisines.

The Eid Al Adha and National day celebrations will be animated by well renowned local artists in an outstanding show of light, sound and images portraying the history of Abu Dhabi. These celebrations will be attended by VIPs, and will be open to the public.

In addition to the above, various daily performances and animations will take place targeting children and adults -such as jugglers, clowns, mimes, live bands and musicians etc... .

Art Souq
This area is designed to create a platform for emerging artists (painters, photographers, sculptors, installation artists etc.) whereby they may display their artworks and gain substantial exposure. As this will be an annual event, we look forward to creating a venue that will become a reference point that will continue to attract the many emerging artists and give them the exposure they rightfully deserve.

Please find attached the overall Formal Park layout. Please refer to the icon called "Exhibition Tent" to see where the Art Souq is located on the plan.
Specifically the Art Souq tent is an octagonal shape with 7 walls for display (excluding the entrance and emergency exits).
Each display wall is 6.7m wide x 2.8m high.
This translates to a total wall display area of about 126sqm.

Total tent display area (bird's eye view): 220sqm

We also encourage artists to set up around the tent itself and paint 'live', which creates an interactive art experience with the visitors.

Art will be displayed either on easels or on hanging systems (according to the artist's preference)

This is open to canvas artists whose work has a UAE National, Middle Eastern and or Arabic connection
Fee Dhs 250 for the week plus a share in the cost of the sales assistant expected to be around Dhs 100 per art vendor

ARTE food experience in TSC
Please state on the booking form, or in an email if you would like to be considered for the prime area between the Sun Café and the Ice Café. In this space we are limited to 9 tables only and we aim to have only one of a kind food vendor. Let us know what kind of your food you will be presenting, we are looking for variety and speciality.
Please wear gloves when you deal with your food products.
Have your products appropriately chilled and wrapped.
There is much competition therefore if you have any other brilliant recipes, other than cupcakes and biscuits why don’t you do those and surprise us with your other culinary delights.

We only have 25 art spaces around the atrium, after that we need to find space for you amongst the crafters or near Biellacafé and the Pierre Cardin fashion store

We are hopeful that we have sorted out our email issues. We are now white-listed not only with our webserver but also with Etisalat. However, if we exceed our quota of 5000 emails per month we will not be able to contact you again by email. FACEBOOK will then be our only form of contact. To open up the possibilities of communication channels I would like to ask you to sign up on FACEBOOK. This is quite a harmless and easy process. An update on the various markets:

Atlantis - Aquaventura - has come to an end, but we are in discussions about a larger Xmas market in the hotel or the hotel grounds. We will keep you posted.

Bastakya – Bur Dubai – this option has been resurrected and we are negotiating with the management of the Dubai Cultural Council for a weekly Saturday event.

Times Square Center (TSC)
ARTE Soukh – November 13th
Date - 13th November 2009, Friday
Time - 12:00 till 19:00 hrs
Set up - 10:00 hrs, any vendors arriving after 12:00 hrs lose their right to their allocated table
Allocation - Lucky draw, unless you have pre-booked a double table or a fixed seasonal space
Fee - Dhs 200 (plus 100 Dhs joing fee for new members) and possibly rental of racks or easels
Payment - Booking form is attached. Please fill it in at home, and take it with the correct
money to Art House Dubai Gallery in Jumeirah 2, before Tuesday November 9th, 18:00 hrs.

Hands on Activities
Would you like to do an activity at ARTE in Times Square Center on 13th November or 11/12th December, please let us know? We will promote, advertise and give you the discounted activity table rate of Dhs 75 per unit. At the moment we have Canvas Painting, T-shirt & Bag Painting, Biscuit Decorating, Fairy Sewing and Jewellery Making with Nayla and Hayet.

NEW!!!! The ARTE Food Experience
Do you like to cook, bake and prepare delicious food for others?
We invite all aspiring foodies, home caterers, party cooks, confectioners and homebakers of sweet & savoury delights to join us with their cakes and breads, pickles and jams in the ARTE Food Experience section at the ARTE Soukhs.

In November all food vendors in Times Square Center will be placed between the Ice Café and the Sun Café (previously known as Lamborghini Café). Any cakes sold from your stall can be consumed by your customer in the Sun Café and it will be supported with a discounted beverage voucher from the same establishment.

Bring napkins, paper plates and a receipt book and let us know in advance how many vouchers you think you will need on the day for your customers.

We will chat to all food vendors on the 13th to find out if you would like to be part of this new concept idea in the future, which we would like to grow into a stand alone regular ARTE Food Experience event in 2010.

Annual Repeat!! TSC National Day ART Display, 27th November – 3rd December
Date - 7 days from Friday 27th November up to and including Thursday 3rd December
Time - 10 am to 10 pm
Art - Arabian National themed art only
Set up - 10 am on Friday 27th November, easels not used by 2 pm will be removed
Allocation - Each artist will have at least one art easel outside the Sharaf DG entrance, first floor. Other works are spread around the banister of the atrium on a rotating basis.
Fee - Dhs 250
Coverage - Artist need to take their turn to be present until 2pm; sales staff can be present daily from 2 pm till 10 pm, but not at the weekend.
Payment - To be made to Helen, the ARTE representative on the first day of the event Sales Staff ARTE can arrange for a Sales Assistant from 2pm onwards for a cost of Dhs 100 per day. This cost is to be shared amongst participating artists. Sales staff are entitled to 10% commission on all sales.

NEW!!!!! ARTE Car Boot Sale at TSC, 4th December 2009
Date - Friday 4th December 2009
Time - 8 am to 11.30 am
Set up - Roll up with your car from 7.30 am, open your boot and sell from the car
Location - Times Square Center, front court yard car park
Allocation - Follow the security staff instructions
Fee - Dhs 150 per car
Departure - Absolutely not permitted till after 11.30 am and then follow the car park attendants instructions. Safety prevails!
Payment - On arrival, cash only – no cheques
Products - Secondhand items and unwanted gifts
Booking - In advance by email to info@arte.ae providing vehicle details (car type, colour, registration number).

Festival City, Trade Routes
CAM Community Arts Market – November 6th
Date - 6th November 2009, Friday (one day only)
Time - 12:00 till 20:00 hrs or beyond
Fee - Dhs 125
Payment - On the day, if you fail to turn up you will still be liable for the fee, or you will be declined to take part in future events.
Location - The location focused on the Trade Routes building, but we can also be outside near the canal opposite the Cafes and alongside the Festival Marina wall. Please specify where you would like to be situated in your email booking.
Art Easels are not provided at Festival City. We can however, provide double
panel metal grid panels. Please order in advance by email. The cost is Dhs 50
per unit. You need to bring your own hooks.
Lighting & Electricity is provided. Bring your own lights and extension lead and tape to
secure the wire to the floor. The mall will also provide lights, but…. You never
know how it will work out on the day. It gets dark before 6pm, we are there till
at least 8pm and beyond.
Shading - Is not provided. Please bring your own.
Registration - Email info@arte.ae with a cc to uae.arte@gmail.com and remember let us
know if you would like an inside or outside space.
Set up - Inside has to be completed by 1pm. Outside set up is between 10 am and 12
noon.
Vendor Parking - In Silk P2 (Parking 2 ) – Lift is near pillar SILK 102. Ask the car park
attendant for guidance if you don’t know. For easy direction, use the ACE
Hardware Entrance (from Al Rebat St), 1st traffic light straight, 2nd traffic light
left, on the right hand side follow the Silk Parking (Blue Color), then in the
parking garage you will see the glass window branded with Trade Routes.

Measuring success….
Many of you have inquired about footfall and the expected sales for this venue. What we can advise is that success will not come over night. We are hoping to build ARTE in Festival City into another successful location, just like we have done with ARTE in Times Square Center. The growth of which takes time, and it needs the support from all our vendors to establish and develop the venue.

More in Festival City
The ARTE November event runs alongside the ‘Sound Festival’ that includes a ‘Battle of the Bands’ and a ‘Floating Chair’ competition in the Creek. It promises to be an exciting weekend at Festival City.

Festival City ARTE December
Contrary to previous understandings, the 4th & 5th December event will be at the same location as the November event in the Trade Routes building. The area inside the main maill underneath the waterfall is now leased out for a promotional product campaign.

Jan D’Sa, creative writer
Many of you may know Jan D’Sa, who started out at ARTE as a jewellery designer. Jan made a move towards writing actively in 2007 and has written about ARTE and helped to promote its artisans for various magazines, over the last two years. So far, she has done this at no cost. However, this ‘bead bard, who loves spinning jewellery whilst caught in the whirl(s)pool of words’ has recently chosen to be self-employed and she is now a professional journalist as well as a PR/communications specialist. Once an article is provided to the magazine, it is up to the editor when it gets placed.
